Milton Keynes facing a shortage of green traffic light bulbs
Some reports suggest that Milton Keynes has, since its completion in 1967, “stood the test of time far better than most and has proved flexible and adaptable.”
However, the same cannot be said of its “outdated” traffic light system, which relies on “specialist lights” that have not actually been manufactured for around 2 decades.
Because of this, the council say that it’s proving challenging to find exact replacements for the bulbs. In … light of this, a spokesperson for the council said that, come the new year, they will be looking to replace these “outdated“ lights with a “new system.”
Milton Keynes, one of the famous “new towns” — which was designed to alleviate the housing shortages in the capital city of London — relies on its road networks and is actually affectionately dubbed “the home of the roundabout.” As such, having working green traffic lights is essential to keep things moving.
Ironically, Northfield roundabout is one of the locations affected by this green light shortage.
