Lancashire county council plans changes to its parking permit schemes

Lancashire County Council is asking its residents how it can achieve consistency across the county in terms of proposed changes to its parking schemes.

The council has recently proposed the introduction of a standard cost of £25 for annual parking permits. The move is intended to standardise the current prices, which vary due to having been set up by several different district councils.

Lancashire County Council has already contacted nearly 10,000 of its residents eligible for a parking permit to gather insight on how the changes to the scheme can achieve fairness and consistency.

The communication forms part of their formal consultation into amending the terms of the Traffic Regulation Order.

Interestingly, the proposed new scheme would not affect many current permit holders, as several schemes already charge the standard £25 now being proposed.

In fact, the price change may only negatively affect homeowners in Chorley and Pendle, as these are the only two areas in the county where a parking permit currently costs less than £25.

Some homeowners, such as those in Preston and South Ribble, are actually facing a cost reduction.
